Hey there blog. It's almost been a year since I last blogged! YIKES!
I'd be surprised if anyone comes back to read it.

What has happened in a year you ask. Well Kyle and I got a puppy. Her name is Luna and she's stink'n cute!
One of my fabulous friends Erin is having a baby in May.
My other fabulous friend Rachel got married in November!
And my sister is getting married in August. Should make for some great times!

I've been longing to develop new designs for my etsy store, but my job is a super demanding. It leaves me little time to focus on my personal stationery. But I'm hoping to gear up new designs.

Here's a picture of Miss Luna when she was just a pup. She'll be a year in July.

Here's Gorgeous Rachel on her wedding day, with preggers Erin. She broke the news to us the night before.

My poor poor blog. Well some of you might know... but I recently got a new job at a small business called Give My Regards To... www.givemyregardsto.com Check it out.

It's a stationery, invitation and event planning business. It's a lot of fun BUT SUPER BUSY! I love the my new job because it's exactly the kind of business I want to get into. Through out my design career I realized I don't much care for the corporate designs such as, logo designs, brochure designs, flyers etc..... boring! So this job is really fun and I'm fully immersed in what I've always wanted to do. So much that, Eeek, I realized I haven't blogged in a long long time. And I've been behind on my stationery. Not much new stuff coming out. However this fall I'll be gearing up for my new 2009 desktop calendar. I can't wait to get started on it. I had so much fun with my last designs.

So I really want to make my kitchen look more, how can I say it..... cute!
It's really lacking in a design look and it just has mismatched decorations from college.
Studio Mela is a great designer and she makes adorable art work.

My next step is to put her art work in my kitchen. I think it would be a great theme and I do love the color orange. It's my new favorite color. So if I decorate with little accents of orange, Studio Mela's work is the perfect fit.

The colors are beautiful and the photograph says it all for this piece. I also love love love weenie dogs, so this would be great piece of work to send to your friends in the mail. Tasteful!

This "I miss you card" can be perfect for that long distant relationship. With Valentine's day around the corner, this card says it all.

A very cute little shop. It's a place where you can find fabulous things to wear and wonderful wall hangings.

I find for this piece to be the most talented work. It's great! Titled Watermellon Wally and the Terrible Accident. Kids, this is what happens when you don't wear a helmet. This piece has great colors and a wonderful energy to it and a touch of humor.

This next wall find is titled Winter Solace. I'm from Minnesota, so this is just all to familiar when it comes to winter. This is sometimes what my hair looks like in the winter. :) Great black and white photograph. Very sophisticated and it's a wonderful feature of forms that mother nature makes. Lovly.

And let's not forget the things you can wear in her shop.

Tis clay pendent is very intricate and detailed. It should be fun to see this etsy artist expand and grow more in her shop. Keep an eye out.

A new favorite accessory of mine are felt pins. I love these handmade felt goods that are made by Sunshine Patchwork. This Sexy Seamstress Dress form Brooch is sooo adorable. Felt brooches are a great little number that can jazz up your winter coat.

This Happy Pear Felt ring is also another fav of mine. I love the touch of the orange button to sweeten it up.

And last but not least, the lovable Birds Eye View Brooch.
Again a hand stitched felt bird is always a great accessory. I also really love the contrasting colors of orange and blue. And the button which makes this little bird very wide eyed.

I'm so happy to have found this etsy shop, it's now a favorite.

Cryztalvisions creates really one-of-a kind and unique jewelry items. It was hard to pick my favorites.

To start with, these stunning earings are certainly eye catching. Beautiful Silver Circle Dragonfly Earrings with Iridescent Patina. This is also a limited edition item so don't let it pass you by.

Cryztalvisions images of her products are nothing but professional and charming.

This pendant was made of Simbircite from an ancient Ammonite shell. A part of septum is seen. This is a brand new creation featuring designer cut Simbircite wrapped in 14kt gold-filled wire. This piece is a one of a kind design!

This pendent also stuck out to me. This hand made silver pendant displays the beautiful design of a dragon fly with the perfect word placed beneath it. Believe.
Wouldn't that be so perfect dangling from your neck.

Birds are very popular today. Tiffany's images are extremely moving and emotional works of art. Tiffany's work has a distinct look. It's very modern and dark, yet it has a reference to old world art. It's tasteful and classic.

I also really enjoy the nude figures she takes. The female body really is a true work of art to study and Tiffany captures it so well. Her images also remind me of the works of Peter Paul Rubens. I love this image with the fern down the back. The proximity of the two subjects allows you to connect that the two are one. The fern looks like her spine, as if you can see inside of her or see her skeletal structure. Very moving.

I also really appreciate this image of a woman laying in the grass. It really reminds me of the master piece of Millais's Ophilia.

And she also has great gift wrap! You can't go wrong with this shop when finding a gift this season. Great works of art and you can have it wrapped with thee most stylish wrapping paper. Great talent!

What an original name.

This bright paisley bag is one of my favorites in her purse/bag section. It consists of a long strap that allows you to drape it on one shoulder and sit under the opposite arm. Great on your back. She's a smalltime, jewelry, clothing and purse maker who wants to share her style with the world! Well etsy is a great way to do that.
Katie is from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and every year she tries to make it out to the surrounding Folk Festivals to sell her products.
Katie strives to make her clothing and purses out of recycled materials. Again Mother nature is stoked about this girl. Anything from tablecloths, to pillowcases, to reused LP record covers. This not only gives my items a vintage feel, but it helps the environment, and what more do you need?

This vintage reindeer is so fantastic! I don't know what it is, but Christmas time is the time of the year when you can bust out all kinds of cook vintage holiday items. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Doesn't this reindeer seem like a precious item that your grandmother once owned?

The person invoved with Wanderlust & Pixie Dust loves antiques and vintage everything. (If you couldn't tell, she's got great taste.) Clothing, jewelry, linens, textiles, anything beveled, books, ephemera, you name it. The older the better. That's the attitude! Also in her spare time she likes to dabble in all things crafty.

This item is also one of my favorites on the site. These vintage flower pins would look awesome on your navy winter pea coat this season. You would be the envy of all your friends!

She said it, this picture is of the Loooooooooong Hessonite Stripe Necklace. This piece of work consissts of Variegated bands of Hessonite, Blue Fluorite, and African and Dendritic Opal (I love opal, it's my birth stone. I really love these Bali Silver Spheres Earrings.
The richly patterned earrings will make you feel so posh. The Bali beads are oxidized to a gunmetal grey with their very finely detailed patterns polished to shine. BEAUTIFUL!

Phyllis Mufson, is the jewelry artisan and involved in a creative career and a small business coach. She started making jewelry while directing the Locks Career Center at Moore College of Art & Design, an inspiring environment where she worked with wonderfully creative people.

Now she work in my sunny living room where she talk with clients and have all of her jewelry equipment close at hand. How nice.

I have a thing for birds. This image that I found in Backwoods Creations is one of the greatest things you can do with fabric. Make a sculpture! I really enjoy the patterned fabric and the wired legs to finish off the sparrow figure.

Along with the bird theme is this creative and colorful bird in a cage fabric sculpture. A bead fringed bird cage complete with its own little birdie on a swing. It has a funky Victorian feel to it. This colorful creating is perfect for the eclectic person out there.

The great thing about this etsy artist is she is a member of Etsy for Animals (EFA) please look for items that will have a percentage listed in item description donated to the specified charity of the month.

That will make the birds SING!!

I'm not much of a cat fan, but this cat sculpture is pretty fun. And who else would pair up best with all the bird sculptures. This is one of many cat creatitions and it has a wonderful folk art style to it. I enjoy it's teal eyes and imperfect figure. It oozes with charm and character.

Karen is a mixed media artist from Cambridge in the UK and specializes in stationery, and fantastic work in collage, illustration and textiles. She has a little of everything.

I really love collage work. I think it shows true talent to take elements and bits of pieces for a collections of things and place them together to make a wonderful, harmonious piece of work.

I love the combination of traditional illustration and patterned pieces. This is a really great find to have in your place.

And lets not forget the wonderful stationery work.

I just LOVE (all caps means businesses) handmade sketchbooks and journals.

This accordion style book is made from artists quality 300gsm bockinford watercolour paper, covered with sumptuous flocked decorative paper and finished with a lilac coloured leather tie and indian glass beads to hold it all together.

I don't know what all of that means, but one thing is for sure, this item is beautifully put together and a high quality product.

I really like this button bracelet. It has wonderful earth tones that accessories well with the autumn season. The center button is a vintage, one of a kind (OOAK) gold-tone metal. The dangle, found near the clasp (from Etsy shop ArtfulMarket) consists of: a taupe faceted bead; a gold cloisonnes bead surrounded by 2 gold beads; and various seed beads and a tube bead in different tones of orange.

A nice contrast to the warm autumn bracelet is this beautiful aqua bracelet, necklace set. She uses five different types of beads to catch the light in beautiful ways.

The person behind all of this creation is 21 year old Amanda who grew up in the Northern Ontario. Canada ay!

Amanda has been crafty her whole life, and enjoys making a variety of things. Her main focus is on notebooks and jewelry. However she also enjoys cooking, reading, writing and problem solving.

I absolutely love this victorian locket, very classic, timeless, and chic. The picture is also stunning and creative. I love how she juxtaposes her work with vintage items.

I love Becki's attitude about jewlery, it's right up my alley.
Most of her pieces are made larger than the norm because she herself cant wear any necklace under 18". And bracelets are around 7-8. FASHIONABLY LARGE I say!

I'm kind of excited it's November. I like the brisk autumn breeze and wearing my new fall jacket. It also means it's getting closer to the holiday season. I keep thinking about having Thanksgiving at my apartment this year, however my apartment is teenie tiny and it's be really funny for me to cook a thanksgiving meal. But I kind of want to be up for the challenge and offer something nice for my family. So we'll see what happens.

Oh and I think I'm getting an itch to create more cards and tags....more to come, keep your eyes peeled.
I'm also going to be involved in a craft show at Kelly's church on November 17th. It's going to be great.

Yes I finally had a sale today. On my etsy site I had a custom order, and on the ekcetera shop I sold 3 different cards. Oh it's so exciting, I just love it! So I've been itching to put some art work up on etsy that I did in college. My last semester I started experimenting with traditional illustration and photoshop. My inspiration for all of it was the book Illustration Now.

It is the best book ever for inspiration. I could look at it 500 million times. I've only been able to check it out from the library or peek at it in Barnes and Noble, but one of these days I"m going to save the money to buy it.

I met such a FUN couple today at the store. They came in and were very excited about the store. We ended up talking for about an hour. It's so great to talk to people who are into the same things you are. Paper, design, macs, internet, the topics went on. I enjoyed it. I hope to see them around again. Last week Thursday I went to a Business After Hours expo for the Saint Paul Chamber of Commerce. Ekcetera had a booth and I was walking around and networking. Various booths have drawings, one booth, Corporate Technologies had a drawing for an ipod, just drop off your business card. Monday morning I get a call, I WON IT!! And I was thinking to myself, oh, it's an old version, and ipod shuffle, something to that extent. No it's a brand new ipod nano, one with the bigger screen and new features. I just can't believe it. It's so fantastic!!!! I'm so lucky.

Then today I receive and email saying I won a $10 gift certificate to Buca's. I'm on a roll.

Yes it's official, I really really love Justin Timberlake's music. I was in the JT anonymous club, but I"m breaking out. I heard his latest song on the radio and I have to admit, yes I do love Justin Timberlake. I havn't downloaded any of his music because I just couldn't justify having his music next to my other genres. But I believe I'm going to break it.

I seriously think that if I went to one of his concerts I would act like a Beatles' fan and scream until I cried.

Call me lame, I deserve it, but so far I absolutely am hooked on everyone of his new songs.

So on Sunday I ran to Glencoe to get my hair cut because it was just driving me crazy. My mom was painting in this apartment house that they rent out, so on my way to the door, I saw these 2 kitties coming out of this little shed. I thought wait a minute. So I went over to see them and noticed that there were more in there. 4 were all cuddled together and one played with me. We had to hold him still to take a picture because he kept stumbling all over the place. They all were in a box in an old shed. They were soo cute I wanted to take one home. But cats are not my thing and my brother is very allergic to them.

I'm in Hell.

Well not exactly but I'm just miserable right now. I just got paid today and 90% of my pay check is gone before my eyes. I really messed up on my check book. I'm really good with balancing my check book and keeping things in order, however this month I completely forgot to add in a semi large amount check and now BAM!!!! Right before my eyes my money is disappearing. I have over draft fee, after over draft fee, after over draft fee! It's absolutely insane. I'm sooo flustered right now because I've never experienced this before and it is just killing me. I really don't know how Kyle and I are going to make ends meet for the next couple of weeks. This is so upsetting. Just when I feel I might be getting on my feet something like this happens. I hate living pay check to pay check and I hate feeling unstable and as if I can't stand on my own. I'm so mad at myself.

Today feels like a pretty good day. I was so happy to find out last weekend that my sister-in-law Megan is going to have a baby!!! I also found out on Sunday that my cousin Angie is engaged. And she just called me today and asked me to be her BRIDESMAID!!! So excited!!! I've never been a bridesmaid. Always a bride, never a bridesmaid. ;) This upcoming year is going to be very very exciting. I can't wait to see what other events it brings.

The Great Minnesota Get Together

So I went to the fair with Kyle yesterday. It was an absolute blast. I haven't been to the fair in 12 years and the funny thing is that nothing really has changed. As we were walking my mind flashed back to me walking with my Mom and asking her every 5 seconds, "Mom! can I got on that ride, MOm can I do that, Mom can I have that?"

We had our typical fair food, funnel cake, mini donuts and a pronto pup. Kyle had a Twisted Sister. It's just a fancy corn dog. We then decided to go on a ride, and I wanted to go on something really fun. So Kyle and I decided to go on the ride Magnum. Bad idea. Now don't get me wrong, I had a blast on the ride, but I must be getting old. The ride was insane, we were flipping upside down, tossed all over, and that would've been great and all, but IT WENT ON FOREVER! I swear if I had ate right before that, I would've pucked. I was laughing, crying and screaming all at the same time. When we got off the ride all you could see on the ground were hair twisters. I was really dizzy and not feel'n too hot after that. Had to take a seat on a bench.

We concluded our night with a ride on the skyride buckets and called it an evening. It was really fun, another reason why I love MN. I want to go back again and again, but man is it spendy.

Well I got my hair cut on Friday. I was sick of my hair, I had the same hair style all through college, it was time for something new. So like every other stereotypical bride, after I got married I chopped it all off. I'm not too sure what to think about it. It's not bad, but it's not "oh my god this is fantastic" yet. It's taking some getting use to. Kyle really likes it so it must be good, he's very honest when it comes to things like that. I sort of feel like Cathrin Zeta-Jone's character on Chicago. Although I've joked with my friend Rachel about putting on a flapper dress and doing the charelston, I think it fits me.

After spending 4 years away to college in Winona, I'm so happy to be living around the metro area and soaking up 89.3 the current. My favorite time of day is late afternoon driving home with work and listening to my favorite dj, Mary Lucia. She plays the best lineup and she's so funny. I also love that they list their daily play list online so I can figure out who the heck I'm listening to and then crazily download their tunes.

Weaning off the Olson

Since I'm married now, I'm realizing that I'm at this in between stage right now. On my marriage license, It's official I'm Vanessa Kimball, but I still need to change my drivers license, bank accounts, social security card and so forth. And with work, I'm slowly working into Vanessa Kimball. I'm finding that it can easily confuse people when they receive emails from a Vanessa Kimball when they're not sure who that is. So for the moment I'm weaning off the Olson. I'm sure lots of women go through the same things. I know a woman I interned for named her business after her last name, then she got a divorce and boy was that weired when past clients couldn't connect the two, or were looking for a different name. She told me, if you ever make your own business, don't name it after yourself. Note to self. I don't plan on owning my own business, but maybe if I had my own designs or sold things online, it would have to be named something different.

Commitment

Well yes I did just get married about a week and a half ago, easy commitment for me. I've been with my now Husband Kyle for 7 1/2 years. It was about time for us. But now I have this little commitment to a blog. I hope I can make the frequent blog posting and not have it be once every 6 months. But as far as I know, nobody knows about this blog so no one's going to really care. :) But all in all, it's my new interest to have a blog since I read so many blogs out there.
